Seabreeze Organic Farm, Nourishing the Soul
The San Diego Watercolor Society organizes five opportunities to paint as a group on location every month. In 2010, I had the wonderful good fortune to demonstrate and provide the critique for SDWS when we visited Stephenie Caughlin’s Seabreeze Organic Farm. The business offers both subscription delivery service of produce grown by her operation and a consortium of local growers as well as opportunities for events and even an overnight cottage rental in an elegant straw bale constructed cottage. I invited my daughter and granddaughter to accompany me on a scouting trip and Stephenie graciously introduced us to two of the most charming acres in San Diego County. Situated next to a preserved area with views of the ocean and Torrey Pines Reserve, the farm was wrapped in the aroma of ripening fruit. Mulberries literally dripped from overhead boughs and hens and ducks combed the vegetable beds for insects, cackling happily. A few adorable rescue animals munched contentedly in their pens while conservation devices kept things growing with minimal water usage. This was a truly memorable painting opportunity!
