Light Moment
Inspiration: The subject matter of this painting is actually the interior of the home my husband, Gary, and I built together. We raised our children and cared for our parents as they aged within those walls. Although I had always expected we would live there throughout our lives, at the time I painted “Light Moment” I knew we were relocating to San Diego. This personal painting explores my emotions about leaving my first half century of life behind, nostalgia for events that were past and gratitude for those life experiences. So I was surprised when I learned that this little painting had been awarded First Place in the 19th Annual Idaho Watercolor Society Membership Exhibition and was purchased before the Exhibition opened. “Light Moment” was also featured on a poster distributed throughout the state celebrating the IWS Twentieth Annual Exhibition.
Juror Jim Kosvanec, author of The Transparent Watercolor Wheel, commented on “Light Moment” for the IWS Catalog, “Well balanced composition with a sensitive use of color. Sense of light and masterfully handled washes create a feeling of a familiar time of day.”
