Designing Abstract Compositions Using Acrylic Paint Workshop
It is great fun to explore abstract painting design using fluid acrylics and mediums on Strathmore Aquarius II paper, heavy watercolor paper or illustration/watercolor board. Painting will begin with experimental, exploratory play, engaging the artists’ creative capacities. Subsequent lessons and demonstrations will emphasize design principals to organize and edit the evolving paintings.
Students are familiarized with the characteristics of acrylic paints and techniques to emphasize the medium’s advantages. Methods to achieve consistency and variation of shape, value and color will be discussed. Other lessons include placement of focal areas, achieving interest through contrast, and the use of symbols and calligraphy. This mini workshop will help prepare the student for future abstract acrylic workshops.
